Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica on April 9th, 1982, Shawn Rayan Parkes (aka Lukey) did not know all that much about the Hip Hop industry or that he would have such a great love and interest for the music as he does now. Lukey was raised in Jamaica for two years when his mother decided that that was not the place for her to raise her kids. In 1984, Lukey, his mother and older sister all moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Lukey’s mom had a part time job to be able to feed her kids, but as a single mother she needed more and decided to move to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where she got a better paying job and her children were able to have more in life. Lukey grew up in what some may call “the hood” or “the projects”. In high school he made a lot of friends that had the same musical interest as him and enjoyed listening to him free-style. Lukey and his friends would get together with karaoke machine and turntables to record in each others basements after school and on the weekends. That still was not enough for Lukey. He wanted more. He wanted to make music a career. Once Lukey realized that he wanted a career in the music industry, he began making goals for himself in order to achieve the career he wanted. As a start, Lukey made it a goal to record songs that he had written during his free time at a professional studio. At the age of 15, Lukey began working to be able to support himself and help out around the house. At the age of 19, Lukey became a father. At that point, Lukey became more serious about his music. Having his son gave him the motivation and inspiration to further his music career as a Hip Hop artist so that he would be able to provide his son with everything that his son would ever need and want. Lukey and some of his friend then formed a group, C-Squad. Like many young Hip Hop artist groups out there, the group members did not all have the same ambitions and expectations and as a result of that their music did not succeed further then performing some club gigs in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and their surrounding areas. In 2004, Lukey won a Hip Hop Competition at Club Eck-Lips in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada. The winning prize at the competition was the opportunity to be the opening act for Joe Budden, who was to perform in the area the following week. Shortly after being given the opportunity to open for Joe Budden, Lukey seeked the assistance from Infyniti Entertainment, a promotional company, based out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. While Lukey has been working with Infyniti Entertainment, he has had various opportunities to perform shows at different venues/festivals in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and their surrounding areas, compete in competitions in Toronto and record two demos and two mix tapes. Lukey has been working with Infyniti Entertainment to promote his mix tapes as well as to produce a music video. Lukey has began working on an album that he would like to record. Infyniti Entertainment and Lukey have been working closely to promote is music by using various website, to have his music played on the radio and to be recognized and given an opportunity to sign with a major record label.
