ANDREW MERRY BIOGRAPHY Andrew Merry is a 16 year old boy from Ayr and attends Kyle Academy. Andrew’s Mother and Father are volunteers at the CLIC Sargent House in Prestwick and one day in 2003 he went along with them to help. Whilst Andrew was there he played the Playstation with a young boy who was enjoying some respite at the House. When Andrew later found out that the boy was dying from cancer he felt sad. However, he was so impressed by the boy’s bravery and positive outlook that he decided to do something to help. He started out by singing at local nursing homes, giving the money he earned to the CLIC Sargent Charity. He sang at all the CLIC Sargent events and with the financial support of two local businessmen Andrew recorded a CD. 2000 copies were produced and all proceeds from the sale of the CD went directly to the CLIC Sargent Charity. In 2004, Andrew was runner-up in the "British Junior Eurovision Song Contest" singing live on ITV. In 2005 Andrew won the Bighearted Scot Special Achievement Award for his charity work and was asked to be a Youth Ambassador for Bighearted Scot. To date, from the sale of his CD and performances at CLIC Sargent events all over Ayrshire and beyond at venues like The Royal Concert Hall and The Usher Hall Andrew has raised £40,000 for the CLIC Sargent Charity. In 2007 as a young CLIC Sargent volunteer every month Andrew visits the CLIC Sargent Charity house in Prestwick and sings to the children at the house. He will spend time supporting and playing with them generally giving them encouragement. Andrew’s ambition is to raise £100,000 by his 21st birthday.
