Bio
Jeff Taube I was born March 8, 1950 in Niagara Falls, New York; the same city where my parents had their honeymoon (though which came first has never been revealed to me). At age 3 my parents forced me to move with them to Long Beach, California, where I had a normal dysfunctional childhood until joining my first band in 1965 called Little David & The Disciples (a 6-man group with 4-members named David). We later changed our name to The Difference and were a cover band that backed up The Drifters and The Coasters from time to time and opened for Ike & Tina Turner occasionally. In 1968, tired of the L.A. music scene and a couple of outstanding warrants, I hitchhiked to New York City where I played The Village Gate, The Bitter End, & Max’s Kansas City (plus another 100-joints that no one remembers). During the mid-seventies I moved backed to the west coast and settled in Venice Beach where I formed an infamous punk band called Bloodclot together with Josh Manley (a former lead guitarist for The Stranglers). In the early 80’s I moved to Gothenburg, Sweden, where I rented a small run down kiosk in Linnéstaden (one of the nicer parts of town) and had an ongoing performance art project there for the next 6-years, of which the most popular were: 42nd Street (the world’s smallest music theatre), Off The Wall (The worlds smallest art gallery), Peanuts (an unconventional psychiatric clinic), and Intergalactic Investigations (a detective agency with no clients). During this time, asides from gigging occasionally, I also produced dozens of shows and a free newspaper called d.o.a. News. Since then I’ve produced a few shows (the most popular being the Freak Show; late 90’s), written 6-crime novels (which I’ve grown tired of trying to sell), recorded a few records, played a few zillion gigs, not to mention being married then divorced & helping raise a wild child. The past 5-years I’ve been spending the winters in Morocco, mostly hangin’ with my Gnawa buddies in Essaouira, doing an occasional gig, writing songs, and various other extracurricular activities. At the moment I’m doing the final artwork for my next CD that’s scheduled for release in early Sept. All in all, life is good; or as my father used to say, “I can’t complain…no one listens anyway so what’s the point!” [email protected] [b]
