Bio
Singing since age three, the Ohio born “Unyque”, made good use of a hair brush as a microphone. Often singing in front of a mirror, her musically inclined parents helped her to develop a passion for music that today has her on the brink of being the first female singer/songwriting diva that may put Cleveland on the map like no women before her. Born Aquilia Unique Kern, “Unyque” is considered one of the top up and coming R&B/ Hip Hop artists in Ohio and possibly the country. As a child listening to musical influences like Whitney Houston, Jodeci, Journey and Billie Holiday, Unyque didn’t just sing and mimic the vocal abilities of others, she created her own style. The sultry 20-year-old Sagittarius having kept a mental diary of her life growing up within the urban blocks of the Superior area, used the experiences of her young life to cultivate her superb lyrical prowess combining both R&B as well as Hip Hop with her natural old school soul that will be viewed as timeless by her male and female fans who have similar experiences. Instead of forcing studio stories on her quickly growing fan base, Unyque, in her first CD entitled “Real Woman: Real Stories”, contains lyrical scenes that have played out in the lives of many relationships regardless of age. One challenge facing Unyque, her producers, and management team is which single will be the first released. Laced with the heart-felt lyrics all written by the insightful songbird, she may have a minimum of five platinum singles on her first CD. Equally comfortable in the studio as on stage Unyque’s accomplishments include stage performances throughout the Cleveland area on such venues as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Z107.9 sponsored “Spin Fest” and “Pepsi Smash”, “Peabody’s” often called the “Rock Star Club” as well as many others. When the sound system at Peabody’s wasn’t to her liking, the soon to be 21 year old acted more like a 20 year veteran had the soundman turn off the music as she finished her set acappella to the delight of her audience. Collaborations with Rocafella artist “Freeway” and other home grown talent have some in the industry labeling her music “Rhythm& Hip Hop Blues”. Influences in Unyque’s life include her grandmother who planted her own tree out the back door of her house “just to grow switches” Unyque playfully adds. Her father, who was a Marine Corp officer and often had her singing military songs as well as many others, and her mother who nurtured her abilities by helping to teach her how to harmonize with any initial note. Now, Unyque is at the threshold of her career that started in an elementary school choir and The Cleveland School of the Arts and will hopefully take her where no other Cleveland born female artist has been, triple platinum status. Unyque, like most aspiring young artist has a web site on myspace.com, featuring her yet to be released singles, “Scenario”, “Be Over”, and a passionate thought provoking song called “You’re the Only One”. Over 233,306 total plays on her Myspace.com page in just approaching five months, reflect growing popularity. Comments from listeners confirm her potential, and yes, the lovely humble songbird answers back. This is only the beginning and many are eagerly anticipating the release of “Real Woman: Real Stories” that will be in stores in OCT of 2007
