Bio
O Dog is known as "The Tightest U Neva Heard". Born in Southern Mississippi, his love for music has been apparent since early on in his life. His father was a part time dj at one time and would always play records on the weekend. He enjoyed the music and his love for it grew from there. O Dog got his name from people calling him the name so much because his striking resemblence of actor Larenz Tate who plays a character called "O Dog" in the movie "Menace to Society". He started rapping while in college in 2001 at Alcorn State University (the school attended by the QB for the Baltimore Ravens, Steve McNair) after friends thought he would be good at it. They would always say, "You are good at everything else, and u love music. I'll bet that you would be good at rapping". He started off making music only for himself to listen to. After getting up enough nerve to allow someone else to hear his music, he did so. To his delight, the few listeners he allowed to hear his songs, actually liked what they heard and let him know so. From then, he started to continously make music, but didn't seriously consider trying to actually pursue a music career. In 2002, O Dog welcomed his daughter Dashiah into the world. After her birth, he decided to no longer stay in college to make more money immediately by working full-time. His love for music never ceased and as he stayed on his job; (he really didn't love), he imagined how it would be to actually pursue a career in music as a rap artist. In 2004 while working full time, he began to write songs for an album he wanted to put out indepedently on a label he would orchestrate called "Destined Ta Shine". Somedays he would work twelve hours or more (9-10) and then come home and work on his music until 3 or 4 in the morning. He would repeat this process many times a week to accomplish his goal of completing his album. What's funny is that he did all this without his family knowing he was ever even rapping at all. He wanted it to be a big surprise and present the album to his family once he completed it. In the process of recording the album, O Dog allowed his older brother, Emile, to hear some of the rough drafts of his songs after he swore to secrecy. The quality of the songs and the content blew Emile away. O Dog was proud that he had satisfied Emile (a tough critic and straight shooter). Emile encouraged his younger brother to continue making music. O Dog completed the album at the beginning of the summer of 2005 and started to get his name out in his area by selling a sampler (similar to a mixtape) of his album which was called "Flipside". He wanted to get his name out before dropping his album because no one outside of a small group of friends and family knew that he was an artist. He knew no one would want to buy the album if they never heard anything from him. The response from the sampler cd was overwhelmingly good. The previewed track called "Uh Ohh" was played in some clubs and on the radio station "99 Jams" in Jackson, MS and 106.3 in the delta of MS. Another track called "Make It Jiggle" was also getting play in clubs. Everything was going well and he was looking forward to releasing the album in the fall. What came next was a major blow to him and his area. Hurricane Katrina came and pushed everthing back damaging his home and others around his town. O Dog was still in love with music but his hometown was in such a bad state it would have been the incorrect time to release an album. He thought he should wait until things get back closer to normal. During the time things were getting back to normal in his area, people would ask about his music much to his surprise. He thought that his music must mean something if people with no lights and damaged homes would be thinking of his tracks. They would often pass by his home singing one of his songs. After a long lay off of selling any cd's or promotion of anytype, O Dog began to sell his music again. After a few months of promotion, O Dog released his cd called "Flipside". It did pretty well locally and he still sells the disc even months after it's release. Everyone around his area knows him for his music. He also has done a few commercials for local businesses. He even had a commercial for his "Flipside" cd (featuring him and his daughter) that was well received by the public. O Dog continues to sell his music with request for it from new people everyday. He has another myspace page with over 1200 friends. Www.myspace.com/odoglilone. One can listen to his entire album on cdbaby.com/odog (read the review from a writer he posted on his site about his album). With songs. like "Hold On" (often bringing people to tears), "Real Sh", "Uh Ohh", and numerous others, we all should see why he is called "The Tightest U Neva Heard".
