[color="darkblue"][/color]Winslow has had a keen interest in music since the early days back in the 70’s when he converted half of his father’s garage into a 4 track recording studio. He built his own synthesizer (Maplin 5600S) which came in a large cardboard box full of tiny electronic components together with a 20 page instruction booklet, which may have well have been written in Chinese. However, a few months later, and lots of college electronics lessons, he was up and running, laying down tracks on his new 4 track TEAC. MIDI editing was unknown in those days, or at least in its infancy; certainly beyond the reach of the ordinary home musician. So you either had to edit whilst playing, taking care not to make any costly mistakes, or you needed to be adept with a razor, adhesive tape and editing block, and have a great deal of patience! These days things are different with the availability of MIDI and Digital Technology. Winslow sees himself more as a composer (searching for a publishing deal) than a performer. All his work is recorded and edited live in his studio using digital audio via Pro Tools. “I play all the instruments in real time straight from the keyboard as if I am recording directly to tape, all in one take with minimum editing as possible. I even play bass and drums this way, it helps to develop and enhance performance technique and improve timing. It also gives the performance an idiosyncratic edge. If I need a particular rhythm, I find it quicker and more convenient to just play it straight from the keyboard. I’m no Liberace, though, I’m learning new techniques all the time. Also, I sometimes have to play the same piece several times over before I get it right!” His latest track, ‘La Musica’ is currently being played around the London clubs by his well-known Urban DJ friend, Colin Francis. It has even caused certain celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, and the Prince of Bahrain, to bop along to it on its debut play at one famous, exclusive London nightclub! “It’s true!
