Starting in 5th grade, and continuing all the way to my Senior year of High School, I played the Trombone in Band class (I switched over to Bass Trombone in 11th grade). In those years, I learned a lot about reading and writing music, and how certain sounds fit together so well and why. In my 7th grade year of Middle School, I was introduced to the Insane Clown Posse, and they quickly became the only thing in my portable CD player (yeah, remember those?) for years to come. As I entered High School, I began to discover the underground music scene, mostly through surfing the Internet. My favorite underground artist for most of my 9th grade year was the New York MC, Da Kippa. It was about the end of my 9th grade year that I decided that I wanted to try this Hip-Hop stuff for myself. I actually started recording music over Summer Break that year. I had my PC, some MP3 editing/recording software, a karaoke microphone, and a jack to put it into my PC, I was so sure I was going to be a huge hit. However, little did I know that I was taking a stumble into complete failure. Dubbing myself "Balliztik," I was pretty much determined to be a clone of ICP and Twiztid. My voice cracked during recording, there was a nice static hum in all of my vocals, and my lyrics were pretty much a constant cycle of "I'll stab you, I'm crazy, yadda yadda yadda." In my two-year stint as Balliztik, I recorded only a few noteworthy songs, a solo Rapcore song called "All My Hate And Rage," a collaboration with U-Fol (then known as the Unheard Psycho) called "Tired," and a collaboration with Budz McGee (formerly Bunny Man) of the Dark Ninjas called "We'll Kill 'Ya," as well as a collaboration with The Pumpkin King, who I do some work for today. During the middle of my Balliztik stint, I recruited my former, and current, best friend Eric (also a Juggalo) to form a Horrorcore group called "12 Guage." 12 Guage only recorded two songs (one of which I don't even remember the title of), and it was a storytelling song about two guys that watched a few too many horror movies, and decided to take their knowledge about killing into the real world. It was also recorded with the same shitty microphone, so it was terrible. The second 12 Guage song was entitled "Reject," and it was rapped over a stolen beat, and the lyrics were written by Khaos (Eric) and myself. Remember earlier, when I mentioned humiliation? Where, this is where it kicked in. Some guys at my high school got ahold of some Balliztik and 12 Guage songs, and passed them out all over both my school and Eric's. Needless to say, the material was awful, and we were pretty much laughed out of the school. Hell, even the teachers heard it. We knew that it was wack...but we didn't care. We thought it was fresh anyway. After 12 Guage disbanded, I was desperately looking for a label that would have me, and I finally found that label in Wasteland Entertainment, an independent online "label." However, since I was underage and my parents refused to sign the paperwork, I was not officially signed to the label. After the Wasteland Entertainment incident, I met underground artist Infected Killa online, and we did a short collaboration together. The days of Balliztik were almost completely over. It was about this time that I had began to experiment with sample-based music, with programs like MTV Music Generator and Sony Acid Pro. Since I was (and still am) a big fan of Electronica and Trance music, I began to make my own unique Electronica tracks, and my material was pretty well-liked around the high school. It was at this point that I changed my name from "Balliztik" to "DJ Pogo," after Pogo The Clown (aka John Wayne Gacy). I began to delve into very Trip-Hop-ish stuff, and I began to mix Techno and Rap together more and more. By the end of my 11th grade year, I had a collection of about 17 songs that I entitled "Supersonic." The album was available for free through my SoundClick page, and was met with pretty positive reviews. I continued to tinker around with music software throughout my Senior year, and had a big Trip-Hop project planned with a Rapper named Acid Tripp, but it fell through before any recording took place. After graduation, I didn't make much music. I was too worried with what to do with my life and getting a job that I didn't have time. After I got a lot of things straighted out, I started to create music again, under the alias of "DJ Elektro," and that's pretty much where my story is at now. My ultimate goal is to save up enough money to create a home studio and get back into the Rap scene, but only time will tell as to when that happens. I'd also like to do some live shows, both Rap-related, as well as doing live mixes.
