Bio
My name is Raymond Maurice Harrison a.k.a RainMan , I’m 28 years old and I currently reside in Greenville South Carolina. I was born January 28, 1978 in Hickory, North Carolina. Hickory is a small city, and the size made it hard to broaden my horizons but I made the best of my time. I became a child of the streets kind of early, and at the time, the streets was where the excitement was. Overall I avoided the major negativities that the streets provided, and I owe most of that to The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. I became a member of the club at the age of 12 and spend most of my teenage years soaking up what the organization had to provide. The club gave kids a place to study, play sports, meet friends and be apart of a group that enhanced your self-esteem, but it mostly gave kids a place to go after school instead of the streets. My mom played music around the house when I was young, but when I first heard “Basketball” by Kurtis Blow I knew what my future goal would be. Financial burdens plagued my mom, so my brother and I were forced to move in with my grandmother. This move was the best thing that ever happened to me because my grandmother instilled the values and moral in me that I have today. I then started writing songs, rapping, and performing in local talent shows around the city. The director of the club noticed my love for music because while the other kids where playing pool or shooting hoops I was in the corner with a walkman and a bag full of cassettes. I met three friends that had the same love for music as me, and we started a group called Next of Kin. When the club had events, the director would let us perform and showcase our talents, and then the performances started spreading to talent shows, summer camps and major Salvation Army events. My brother and I had no father figure, so my grandma showed us ways to move on without a man’s presence. I graduated from high school in 1996, and I really wanted to go to college, but I waited a few years to go so I could help my grandmother with some of the expenses around the house. I enrolled at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina in the fall of 1999, and while in school I participated in some of the talent shows, fraternity shows and college homecoming events just to keep my love for music warm, but I always tried to maintain a decent grade point average. I struggled hard to meet the financial requirements to survive in college, but with determination I managed to graduate and earn a BFA degree in Communications. After college I moved back to Hickory for a while then moved to Greenville, South Carolina with the mindset to work hard to make my dreams come true. My networking ability has landed me with some performances around Greenville at talent shows, fashion shows and bike shows. As time progressed I read books about the music industry, and I learned the importance of the business. What I mostly learned is that patience is a virtue, and to make it in the business you must have determination and dedication. Most businesses require a resume to be considered for any career placement, so inside this package I’m adding my resume, sort of.
