NEM-S-ISS: The Man, the Music, the Business The task of any great artist/musician is to entertain the masses through an infectious, addictive sound of good quality music and lyrics that stimulate more than the ears. In Toronto, this mission is especially difficult because of the Canadian population, strongly lacking in hip-hop culture, and other impressionable factors such as promotional barriers. This reality however has in no way barred 23 year old Toronto native Nem-S-Iss from diving head on into the music scene, keeping it real for the hip-hop music heads. Working closely with the well received SoundSmith Productions team also originating directly out of Toronto; Nem-S-iss has generated a distinct sound and style, exclusively reflective of his undying street roots. Success, Progress, Pain, Growth, Respect, Loyalty and Independence, are the most dominant themes which tend to stand out most in his music. As an artist Nem-S-Iss considers himself versatile and “unclassifiable”, therefore he doesn’t stay committed to designations such as “thug” or “gangster” which systematically define and ultimately destroy the black man in today’s society. Although these days young male rappers seem to come a dime a dozen, and one seems to be more generic and forgettable than the next, there now stands an artist, a man, a real musician who is prepared to keep you engaged, entertained and definitely impacted. With three albums, two successfully received mix taps under his belt, Nem-S-Iss is the man; Real Life On Wax is the label, or better yet, the lifestyle. Nem-S-Iss as a man personifies the term and physical essence of “streetlife”, but keeping in mind that this industry consists of 10% art and 90% business, he dabs into every facet of the industry he can, in order to stay on top. With this fact in place Kevin “Nem-S-Iss” Smith has independently funded four of his own promotional videos “Hate The Game”, “Know They Love That”, "Old School", and "Trash Man" has established his own artist representation label while prospectively working towards producing an online television program "R-LOW TV" . Real Life On Wax, is a marketing company and independent music label that advertises and promotes booming Canadian talent. Based centrally in Toronto, R-LOW Music has plans of global expansion, branching from the UK and across America in mid 2008 . With intensions of solidifying Canada’s newly flourished industry, R-LOW Music is dedicated to real artist and industry development, as its’ title entails. In addition to his entrepreneurial interests, Nem-S-Iss is credited for finding and budding the new artist under his label Real Life On Wax Music (R-LOW Music), Baby Grhyme. Appropriately enough, Nem-S-Iss and partner-in-rhyme artist Baby Grhyme share a close musical and professional relationship based on the product of a long-willed childhood friendship. Baby Grhyme is another exceptionally talented Toronto artist on the rise, who as a female will be an unquestionable necessity in globalizing Canadian hip-hop. He has already planted the seed of his own clothing line "ArmStrong Jeans" that will also represent Canadian talent from graphic designs to professtional drawings. The first push is the "Nasty North" t-shirts, hoodies, and long sleeve thermol shirts which are making a lot of noise in the scene, and at the same time creating the patriotism that is well needed.
