Biography Lavondyss: Sam Barnard: Vocals, Guitar Rob Vicars: Vocals Joe Fisher: Guitar Seb Deery: Bass Lee Tysall: Drums ‘Lavondyss’ began in February 2006. Like all bands, the original four piece went through a number of changes in the practise jams leading up to the bands formation. After writing a six song set list through February the band took to the stage for their first gig on March 5th, playing local club ‘O’Hagans’. A number of headline slots in the following months allowed Lavondyss to make their first marks on the fading Rugby music scene and begin gathering the roots of their now solid home fan base, with a supremely energetic and entertaining performance with catchy, sing-along parts to song’s and a musical technicality to boot. The next months were spent playing and planning local shows and writing more material. By the beginning of July, guitarist Ed Hawkridge announced he would be leaving. This left the band in a tight situation with more local shows booked and a setlist where a second guitar in many cases was essential. It wasn’t long before guitarist of renowned and recently deceased local band Joe Fisher was asked to try out. Joe fit in more perfectly than the band could have asked for, and everyone sat down that night and decided Joe was their guitarist. The first recording took place in the beginning week of August. With Joe learning the entire set in a short number of practises, the three track ‘Reborn Into Disaster’ EP was recorded. At the end of the recording Joe’s first show would be one supporting Casket Records’ VERT and FOREVER NEVER, which was an important one, and earned the band contacts with both bands. Following this the band were booked for playing ‘Frenzy Fest’ simply by word-of-mouth. This surprised each member as the promoter at that time was known for not booking any old band and was a significant confidence boost. As was the night that followed. Treating it as their EP release the band sold all 40 CD’s they had self-manufactured. September saw the band leave Rugby and head South, into Croydon where again they would sell all EP’s aswell as the new badges, tee’s and stickers they had had produced. This sparked a number of Southern gigs and over the following months they would play The Agincourt and The Live and Loud bar in Camberley aswell as heading to the coast playing at Burgess Hill and Brighton, before supporting ThreeMileIsland on their tour dates in Birmingham and Brighton and back home in Rugby. Also playing a show in Leicester for UKUNSIGNEDROCK allowed them to get through with only one other band of the seven that played, to the regional finals and a chance to be booked on to a stage at The Bulldog Bash Festival. Working non stop on gig-getting lasted until February next year when the band booked dates for their new recording and got into the Kerrang Sponsored Surface Unsigned, as well as having more dates for UKUnsignedRock to play. The band took a small break from the vigorous self-promotion and gig searching, though a few were a accumulated anyway, to concentrate on new material and more rehearsal. The resultant EP entitled ‘Available For Children’s Parties’ finally showed the new direction the band were heading in and as far has been gaining great attention from fans and industry members alike. A number of new mixes have been and are being made by contacts the band have and with a release date scheduled for April the EP is looking set to do big things for the band. Lavondyss made it through the first round of Surface Unsigned with a brilliant review from present BBC representatives (see ‘Reviews’) and the highest audience vote. Footage from the night was used numerous times in the Subsequent ‘home’ video for ‘Crash (Year of the Rabbit)’.
