the fakes Little Deaths is the new EP from dreamy, ethereal pop outfit the fakes, released nationally on 7th Oct 2006. The Melbourne EP launch will be on 15th Nov at the Northcote Social Club with special guests Lacuna. A little bit of sound can fill a lot of space, but few bands can melt the air with such subtle and fragile precision as the fakes have done on Little Deaths. Little Deaths is the anticipated follow up to the fakes’ debut Storm in a Teacup. Often drawing comparisons to Mazzy Star and Sigur Ros - ‘ the fakes’ reverberating, refracting guitar swirls rain down like a meteor shower on minimal drum pulses laced by gorgeous, heavenly vocals. Shimmering, shining, disorienting, crystalline, textured and tortured music that would best be experienced in a smoke and haze filled club, where other people fade in and out of the fog like dark silhouettes in a strobe filled alley. What punk would sound like if it could be beautiful... About the fakes After finding life in the backwoods of Connecticut, the initial incarnation of the fakes recorded songs heavily influenced by the sounds of bands such as Mazzy Star and other textured, sleepy pop bands. The fakes’ first demo quickly attracted attention from labels in Australia, Europe and the U.S. and resulted in a “Music for the Future” grant to record their debut. Mixed by Robbie Rowlands (1200 Techniques, Morning After Girls), Storm in a Teacup was released in Australia in Sept 2005 and unveiled to a packed house at The Empress Hotel.
