Born in South East London in April 1987, Massaka (AKA Dan Smith) was raised in the urban city life. Originally influenced by Heavy Metal bands such as Pantera, Metallica and Slayer, he then discovered Hip-hop artists such as Tupac, Cypress Hill and DMX. With an ever growing interest in the music industry Massaka started to write songs at the age of 8. Starting with Rock songs following his childhood heroes, such as Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott and Kurt Cobain. As he grew older he began to take in the influences of the events he saw unfolding in his local area and in political issues. These views brought him closer to the Hip-hop music he had been listening to. Writing his first rap song in 2005 “The Debt” a tribute to his mother, Massaka found that he could express views and feelings through rap music that he couldn’t seem to let out within the heavy metal band for which he performs vocals “Unborn Entity”. Nearly two years later and armed with a whole catalogue of material Massaka is now putting the finishing touches on debut album “South East Dreamz”. The release of this recording is currently set to be done through independent means although Massaka is looking to find the right deal for him to try and spread his music worldwide with the aim of trying to push the UK urban scene to the forefront of the music industry. 2007 could well be the year that Massaka breaks into the music scene in a big way, already collecting support very quickly throughout the UK with the help of dedicated friends and crew Merciless Attakaz.
