Name: DJ Peachez Birth Date: February 26, 1982 Birth Place: Lynchburg, VA Birth Name: Terika Grooms DJ Peachez is a newcomer to the Richmond, VA area, but she is no stranger to radio or the Entertainment Industry. She has been involved in radio since the age of 17 and rockin’ parties since 2000. She moved to Richmond, VA in July 2005 from Amherst, VA to pursue urban commercial radio and she has never looked back. Even being a newcomer to Richmond her distinctive skills as a DJ soon landed her the prestigious position of on-air mixer on Power 92.1fm, becoming the first lady DJ to have a regular mix show time slot in Richmond, VA. Her drive, passion and determination earned her the title “First Lady of the Cap City.” DJ Peachez (Terika Grooms) was born on February 26, 1982 in Lynchburg, VA and spent her childhood and adolescence in Amherst, VA. Her parents were unable to take care of her, so her paternal grandparents became her legal guardians. Even though her grandparents cared for her, her parents were an important part of her life. Overall, her childhood was happy, but there were several hardships and tragedies. At age 7, an electrical fire destroyed her home and all of her possessions. At age 12, her father passed away, and later, her grandmother that raised her passed away 3 weeks before her high school graduation. Despite all of these obstacles, she graduated from high school with a 3.9 GPA and became to first in her family to go to college. She graduated from James Madison University with a BBA in Marketing and a Minor in Music Industry. She was also an Honors Scholar, and graduated with little college loan debt. It was in college that she learned how to DJ. An internship at a local radio station during high school sparked her interest, so she immediately sought out the JMU college radio station, WXJM. At WXJM, she met the urban director, who graciously took time out of his busy schedule to teach her how to DJ. She continued to practice and hone her skills until she started doing parties. She steered clear of drug abuse, promiscuity and alcohol and focused on making money to cover her expenses while in school. Having a humble attitude and bright smile soon made her quite popular on JMU’s campus, and people admired her sincerity. Peachez has come a long way, but she is just getting started. She is a goal-oriented and driven young lady. All of her life, she has dared to dream big, and her goal is to become a business mogul and philanthropist. She wants to become internationally known as a DJ and talk to youth and young adults about the importance of education. In addition, she wants major sponsorships and product endorsements and eventually start a marketing consulting company. Later on during her lifetime, she would like to earn a Ph. D. and possibly teach at a university. DJ Peachez is the epitome of ambition, hard work, and dedication. She continually strives to become a successful businesswoman and a positive example for others. From her humble beginnings in Amherst, VA to first generation college student, to her rise to success as an on-air mixer for Radio One, she has maintained her humble spirit, strong values, and positive attitude.
