Kanden Tolbert(born June 14, 1988), better known by his stage name Kanden T, is an Mid-West rapper who started his career at the age of twelve in Cleveland, Ohio. Kanden was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in a suburb of Cleveland during his early childhood and teenage years. In the late 1990s, Kanden T produced original raps for his family and friends with high school classmate Raphael “Geno” Morgan. In 2003, Kanden released his first album, “I’m Just Me”; under the local label he had created “Shake City Productions”. This and his next mix tape releases featured his single “Rims Still Spinning” which at the time got a lot of play from students of Shaker Heights High School and surrounding Highs in the area. Kanden’s friends often times greeted him as “What’s up Famous”, but Kanden didn’t stop there, he wanted more, and he wanted to continuously build upon his name and image. In 2006, Kanden T and Geno founded “The Team”, a street team consisting of dozens of dedicated childhood friends who support his music. A little over a year after Kanden T had graduated from High School he had been offered the opportunity to do show intros for DJ’s at several major Cleveland radio stations including z107.9 fm (Latin Assassin, Jay Fresh, Tropicana…) and 96.5 Kiss fm (Java Joel). By the time of his 2007 self titled release, “Kanden T”, he began to develop a noticeable fan base. Kanden T's songs are principally recognizable for their emphasis on; drinking, partying, and other related sexually charged topics. With the rise of more lyrical detailed rap in the late 1990s - mid 2000s, Kanden T’s craft has founded a natural place in mainstream rap, although he had still not landed a major record deal. The latter of his underground hits include songs such as “I’m Throwed” (feat. Pooh Gutta), “Girls in the Club” and “They Aint Gotta Like Me” all of which deal with partying, sex, and swag. It should be noted that Kanden doesn’t lack any certain thematic elements associated with the genre of rap music. His works can entertain a crowed filled with any group of people, by catching the ears of many with his lyrical and storytelling abilities. Kanden T never really dealt with guns, killing, drugs, or gangs, so his music doesn’t reflect that (unless hired to do songwriting for other artist). But his music is rather focused on the lifestyle of a young black man getting money, having fun, who strives for attention and women. Some may classify it as the “Glamour Life” others may call it or imagine it as “The American Dream”. Subsequent work is primarily collaborative for Kanden, including works with Avant, The Leverts, Carlysia Levert, and Joe Little, Romey Rome, The Kickdrums, Young Yonny, JP, Thug Line Records, Mo-Thugs, Dream Life Records and countless others. He tried out for Bad Boy Records “Making the Band 4” but was denied a chance to make it to the house. But this only strengthened Kanden. After flying back to Cleveland from auditions, Kanden wasted no time to begin work on his third (not yet titled) album.
