People say various things about [b]We Govern We[/b]. One of their members thinks it's like Cindy Lauper fronting the Killers. Their local paper describes them as Shiny Toy Guns with a little BitterSweet. Maybe it's La Roux touring with the Bad Seeds, but it doesn't really matter because how can you pigeonhole a band that, after paying tribute to the Pixies and Placebo, names both Duran Duran and Sigur Ross as influences? Maybe it's their unconventional background as their members hail from places as far apart as Alexandroupolis, Greece and Minneapolis, Minnesota and reached California via Prague, Athens and Boston. Anna Karakalou (lead vocals) and Panos Scourtis (lead guitar) cut their teeth in the music industry with various projects before finally finding themselves as fellow band members of internationally acclaimed alternative electronic rockers Sigmatropic, where they got to collaborate with people like Carla Torgerson of the Walkabouts, open for acts like Moby, Sonic Youth, and Nick Cave, and eventually feel ready to do their own thing. The road to the West Coast saw them shooting two music videos, getting offers from various record labels, and arriving to their current incarnation with former Berklee student Yannis Tsiroulis (guitar), Luke Manriquez (drums) and Adrian Burke (bass). The band gigs regularly around the LA Counties area -try the legendary Whisky A GoGo where they have already played twice. As they near the completion of their first album you might want to pay attention, so you can say you knew of them before they hit it big. After all, if Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), who is guiding the production, thinks they are good enough it probably means you should too.
