Sound project "Contact +/-" was created in 2007 by Zydrunas Maciulis, who is the main person under this project name. Firstly Zydrunas as a artist started his music exploring in lately 2004 in creation of small sounds with "Propellerhead Software - Reason 2.5. In that age he created the music just from samples of Reason's library. Lately he decided to start to use the Ableton Live software, but that software was giving just the same. In understanding that the experience of musical creation is to small, firstly he started to know the music. Actually his travel in music was more different then other artists. Other artists are playing with instruments, going to musical schools and academies. At his age of 13 he didn't go to any schools of music, because in his family was the problem to buy any instruments. He founded other solution from music instruments and learning how to play. He started seriously listen to music, and in his like a kid mind, the listening of music was like a theoretical things. In age 13 he started to buy a lots of various music cassettes, and listen to them. Of course at that age he don't understand the musical styles. In age of 14 he firstly tried to make the mix from cassettes. He putted two different cassettes into the player, and started to record. It was more than funny, because there was just a player and player with recorder with 3 equalizers, but without crossfaders between two systems. In ages till 18 he was just listening the various styles of music began from italian disco till club music. After the mid-school music exam, he started seriously to improve his bigger knowledge of all music history. He was analyzing every music style with big attitude. Of course this activity was stopped when he started to learn the DJ-ing. 19 years old he went to the Poland, Wroclaw city where he had his first parties. He stopped his hobby of DJ-ing when he became 22 years old. From this age he started to give himself to the music creation and he was exploring only this section. He started firstly to create the music from samples like in 2004, but one day he saw, that the making music from samples is so little thing he can do, than he decided to make his own sound from various synthesizers in the software he was using. In lately 2007 he explored the NI Reaktor software which looked to him amazing software of all softwares, because it had a lots of various synthesizers, which can modulate hundreds of interesting sounds. And if the fact, till today he is using this software in recording of his sounds in real time. What's about style of music? The style of music he's creating till today from 2007 is electronic music. If in categories of this style - ambient, experimental, abstract, minimalism. And at the moment he very loves the improvisation concept. He's creating this music only for one reason of himself, because these music styles like ambient and experimental was the most beautiful and interesting for him. Of course, a lot of people thinks that these music styles have no idea, no theme, and in this music is just only a beep. Actually in this music Contact +/- or Zydrunas founded a lot of other hidden sounds not just the "beep". And after the remembering of all that listened music like house, electro, techno, drum 'n' bass, he proudly says that ambient electronic (dark ambient, soundscapes etc.) and experimental electronic are the music which never broke your mind and thoughts. When you listen all that music with beats, a lots of vocals, and sounds mix, lately you start to have a headache, finally, after the few weeks you forget this music. But ambient and experimental electronic, always wake your mind, your personality, your thinking and your wishes to explore other arts. Why sound project? Sound project is for that reason, that "how Kim Cascone, David Toop & Ray Lee said: the person who is creating and living with the experimental electronic music, he is the sound artist. So for that reason "Contact +/-" is the sound project, and in 2008 this project started to be more orientated in all sounds, which makes the experimental music. And in one theoretic seminar in Vilnius, this project or just Zydrunas give more attention to field recordings sphere. Of course for this influence he should be thankful for Kim Cascone.
