TAYAZAWAN aka ZION Zion, as he is known to his family and friends, hails from the enchanting island of Trinidad & Tobago. Born, Roger Combs on November 13th in the Eastern part of the island, Tayazawan grew up in a musical home with his legal guardians. He grew up in a close knit circle of family and friends in his home town, Laventille and Movant. Upon meeting Tayazawan, you will find a very humble and conscious man; when you see him perform, you will find an amazing artist on the rise. Tayazawan has been singing and writing songs since 1994. In 1997, he was performing at various local venues with two different bands; Uplifters and Signs Int’l. After the carnival season he visited Daryl Braxton, who at the time was the producer for Chilli D.This gave Tayazawan the opportunity to be a part of the music industry. He has performed alongside such artists as Berbise, Zoelah, Ronnie Macintosh, Bunji Garlin, Maximas Dan, Buju Banton and many more. In 2000, he performed at the Soca Monarch competition alongside “Scrunter.” His constant commitment to his career and his community led him to enter the Cocoa Cola School Tours to bring awareness to the crucial fight against HIV/ AIDS. During the tour he performed at venues like Upper Level, Spectacular Forum, Petro Tran and Bryan Lara Promenade. Tayazawan’s humble nature leads him to always remember the young people and has reasoned with the local youths about violence in the communities. Tayazawan, using his God-given talent, spreads love to all and the message that God does not leave any of his children forsaken". This is truly an artist with infinite possibilities. In 2003, Tayazan migrated to the U.S., where met up with his friend Cherry was employed at a local studio. After recording his first US track entitled 'Found Love', he linked up with another brethren, Howard Hughes, who helped him to network for shows in the Brooklyn and the Tri-State area. He then recorded his first video entitled “Love, Joy and Harmony.” Tayazawan quickly became acclimated to American culture, and enjoys the response of love and the culture of music in the US. In 2006 he performed with the Request Band, the Evolution Band and various artists including Khari Kill, Jah Bami, Jahspa, Lyrikal and many more. Tayazawan supports the local studios in his community, such as Ahtik Studios, QuabLab, EL PAW. Currently, his completed albums include “Fire Fi Bun” and “Wha She Want.” He frequently performs at national venues, preferably Afro-Carib World Festivals celebrating his people and culture. He is an independent artist and NITUL, a family friend, presently co-manages his career. Right now, Tayazawan is enjoying, learning and fulfilling his role as a new father in Brooklyn, New York.
