Bio
The Evolution Of Kornbread Born in the South raised in the Midwest/D.C and a few places in between…I was exposed to all forms of rap and the hiphop culture. While most were listening to the sounds of artist from the east coast such as tribe called quest, Rakim de la soul and KRS one, I was bumping Geto boyz, TELA, DJ jumbilli, ICE T, TOO SHORT, NWA, digital underground, UGK, Eight ball and MJG, Devin the Dude and BONE THUGHZ. But I gotta say the niggaz that really made me say “damn, this rap shit can really move niggaz” was Tupac and gangsta nip from Houston! Some artist that I listened to were never even heard by the masses…i.e. Tela, hit man sammy sam, Dj. Jubilee, Dj T tucker. I mean depending on where you were from in the late 80’s, and early 90’s determined the type of music you heard.I wasn't afraid to be different, good in sports, I also excelled in theater. Leading in school plays and playing small parts in movies. My love of writing also lead me to poetry, finding more than one way to express myself thru words. After my first performance on stage as an Emcee I believed that’s when I fell in love with the Culture! The feeling you get when you have every bodies attention and their listing to YOU! and singing along to songs they’ve never heard…smiling, laughing, dancing, claping and whatever else! I knew then that’s what I was put here to do. I began performing locally within groups namely Liberation. Liberation really showed me the getting dirty part of being an artist. Late night studio sessions lasting for hours sometimes days. The constant grind of rehearsing with a live band and the demand of being on the move all the time! LIB really helped to mold me as a professional. We cut an album, mixtapes, and performed in dozens of cities around the US. D.C. NY Chi town Daytona and Philly. I had a home with liberation our chemistry was good, the exposure, great! The group really cultivated my work ethic and helped me realize the importance of sacrifice and prioritizing but I needed more. I wasn’t satisfied with the type of music I was creating. It was one sided, like Pac without the I get arounds, and All eyes on me and if I die tonight just the Brenda got a babies and strictly 4 my niggaz and dear mamas…..I wasn’t a one scale artist My spirit is just too broad! Guess that’s the Gemini in me! I found Love and moved to Philly. It didn’t take me long to figure how to maneuver around, the city and talking to folk bout music, shows, open micz, any place I can be seen or heard. I wondered into a record store, Uptown Flavor, owned by an African Brother. He linked me up with a few of his people and introduced me to a nigga named Suga tongue Slim, from ATL. It wasn’t long before we combined his down south swag with my country slang and became Bread and Slim. Coming to Philly and meeting Kadim was probably one of the greatest things to happen to my career! I was different from what Philly hiphop culture was use to. So it was easy to make my mark. With hard work after being in Philly for a year and a half, I landed my first deal, KORNBREAD and SLIM with a major record label. Unfortunately, because of poor management, my deal fell thru. The experience in a nutshell has been a blessing to say the least! I am no longer that local artist! I’ve made a name for myself! I’ve traveled to LA, Miami working with A-list producers out of A- list studios working and writing for A-list artist. I am now content with being a solo artist! Being managed by STARRISLAND ent and Having the confidence of being on my own has been working for me. I think what people like about me most is that my stories aren’t fiction and can be heard from even my MAMA mouth! Still I remain true to me despite the industry, and I continue to EVOLVE!!! BET DAT UP!!!
